Paint code 28 = "light blue poly" lower body color
28U most likely means upper ("U") body color, and it would be the same for this car, light blue poly
04D = production date of fourth week (D) of April (04) 1976.
LAN = Lansing assembly plant
510870 = production sequence number at that plant.

Isn't "AM" Brougham designation?

28U is simply upper body color. Sounds like this one has no vinyl top.

04D built 4th week of April.

I don't think there was anything called a Cutlass "Tiara" in 1976 or any other year. Later on, in the '80s, there was the Cutlass Ciera.

For 1976, the only Cutlass models were the S, Salon, and Supreme. Here's a portion of the '76 Olds brochure showing the available Cutlass models.

I don't think so.

I don't have the '76 chassis service manual, but I do have the front section of the '75. The two-letter designations starting with "A" (AF, AG, etc.) referred to different series within the Cutlass line. There was no "AM" for 1975, so it's not shown below, but I'm guessing it was similar to one of these.

From my ratty 76 parts book. I don't get "Tiara" either but it had to have meant the top-line car for the series, and that "LaMancha" cloth was available only in Cutlass and Toronado. Black, blue, buckskin and mahogany.

I stand corrected. There was a Cutlass Tiara. Never heard of it, and there's no mention of it in the '76 Olds brochure.

I don't know what that "Tiara" is supposed to be, but the "M" was used to designate the Cutlass Supreme Brougham.
