74 omega motor mount question

I have the proper oldsmobile engine mounts for the clamshell frame mounts, this is the only way they line up and I read one bolt isn't used. Look right?

What engine are you putting in that car?

Olds motors in Omegas did not use the clamshell mounts. They used conventional frame pads with 2328 motor mounts. Naturally, the frame pads for the first gen Omega with an Olds motor are unique to that application - P/N 413004 and 413005 for RH/LH. The second gen Omegas (which use a subframe similar to that in the second-gen F-body) used one P/N 419637 (same as the 73-77 A-body) and one P/N 551721 (unique to the Omega).

The first gen cars use rear-steer, so the motor mounts bolt to the front two of the three holes in the side of the Olds block. This will determine where the frame pads go. Given the fact that you will be hard-pressed to find the correct original Olds frame pads, you might be stuck with using the Chevy clamshell mounts and getting a set of 77-79 Trans Am engine brackets to mate to them.

Those T/A brackets are designed for the clamshells to be in the SBC engine position.

Ehhhh, which are those then? The info I got was from a nova forum going from a 6 to a v8 and those were the holes it said to use.

Nova should be the same. To be honest, I'd bolt the block to the trans, put the trans in the correct location relative to the crossmember, bolt the brackets and clamshells to the block, and see where they fall on the crossmember. This assumes you've got a trans that matches the crossmember, of course. The X-body only came with a TH350, so a TH400 won't be in the right place with the stock crossmember. Just be aware of that.

My crossmember is the 4 speed one it appears. Looks like the turbo 400 except one bolt slot, will that work or do I need the actual turbo 400 one?

The trans mount on the TH400 is further back from the bellhousing, so you'll need the crossmember to be in the correct place to get the motor mounts right. The easiest thing to do is to temporarily bolt a TH350 to an Olds block, use your current crossmember, and use that to mock up the motor mount position. TH400 crossmember top, MT and TH350 bottom in the photo below.

Looks like a turbo 400 one won't be too hard to get. Here's the one that came with the car.

You'll note that the mounting tab is in line with the crossmember bolt locations, whereas the TH400 crossmember has it behind the bolt locations due to the longer trans case.
