71 W25 hood hinges

Ok hanging front fenders and hood for alignment prior to paint. Set the W25 hood and shut it then open it after working on alignment. The drivers side hinge looks like a pretzel now . One of the rivets failed. So new hood hinges... My question is this are the hinges on all hoods the same or is there a stouter one for the heavier W25 hood and who has the best quality for the $. Thanks guys

"The heavier W-25 hood"? You do know the W-25 hood is made of Fiberglas with just a steel frame right? Which is lighter then steel. If you ever picked up a standard steel hood you would know the difference, they are heavy!

Anyway, W-25 hoods use the same hinges as the steel hoods. The only difference is if your using an aftermarket all fiberglass hood, you use lighter springs so you don't damage the hood when you close it.

Yeah I've picked up both, but before yesterday it had been a few years Guess I'm not as stout as I once was. This original W25 hood with steel frame and all is HEAVY... I stand corrected and thanks for the input

no problem. These hoods are massive and heavy, steel or Fiberglas. Much bigger and heavier then my buddy's 69 Chevelle SS hood

The Parts Place has new hinges for $69 a piece. You might be able to find them cheaper somewhere else though.

Ditto on the 69 Chevelle hood. That's the 442's stablemate in my shop so that's what made me go dang ...when we picked up the olds hood

The plain steel hoods and OAI hoods all use the same hinges and the same springs.
The plain steel hood is actually lighter than the factory OAI hood.
The aftermarket OAI hood, all glass,is lighter, and uses different springs.

The OAI hood is heavier then then the steel hood? I would have never thought that. I guess I stand corrected.

Bug man, why don't you carry the cutlass hood around all day, then when you pickup the chevelle hood it will be like picking up a piece of paper
