71 vert replacement quarters value loss?

I was looking at buying the 71 supreme vert
Hes asking 29500
Just found out the 2 rear quarters were lap welded
Does this de-value the car and if so how much

Lap welds issues aside, how does a 71 vert command a $29,500 price tag?

Again I have to ask how a convertible Supreme sells for that much. Mid 20s is what a very good condition car is worth.

Nice. Two hot chicks (because two is better than one). Valley girls selling cars, “Super cool” and “iconic”. Facts and details matter little. Gag me with a spoon. As to the matter at hand - enjoy the car, value is in eye of beholder.

Well about OP's question... That pic looks sketchy for sure, but what is it? Inside of trunk? if that's what it is what other sketchy work has been done??? Oh I think that red bolt/nut is coming in from quarter extension piece? I wouldn't like that work at all....

^^^THIS. Unfortunately, that is typical for most repair shops. I suspect you will find a lot of filler over that joint. At some point either the filler will crack or the seam will telegraph through the paint if you park it in the sun. I've seen that on too many cars.

I believe that my quarter panels were repaired that way in 1995 (minus the bolt and sloppy cut line). I remember watching the guy applying thin coat after thin coat of filler until there was no imperfection. To this day you can't tell from the exterior it has quarter skins put on it. He did some pretty amazing work and I bet he is the exception. My car had a vinyl top with multiple holes he filled. Except for one spot you can't tell it's fill. I'll have to take some pics when I get home.

I agree any car is worth what someone is willing to pay. Barrett Jackson is here in Houston and a 70 Cutlass Supreme Convertible sold for 70k and 66 F 85 sold 43K.. To answer the op question about would the lapping of the quarters devalue the car, I dont know the answer but I would be leery on buying a car with overlapping quarters.

IMO, regardless of what you're going to pay for the car, if it's the car you want, you have the $$ to spend, then buy it, drive it and enjoy it before the time arrives when you can no longer enjoy it. Life is short, there are no dress rehearsals.

Here's where the "meat on the bone" flipping comes into play. If you want the car to enjoy, buy it, BUT be prepared to take a loss if you sell it as it's already exceeding market value.

Original metal to me makes it more of a "comfortable" purchase which is what I prefer. So to me, it's worth more with original panels that did not require extensive repair. BUT I probably wouldn't care if the quarters are put on correctly. Properly hung full quarters and wheelhouses should be hard if not impossible to detect. And if it needed quarters to fix rot that means more rust is hiding.

Sight unseen with the quarter job above I wouldn't pay more than 15-18K tops. And that's if the frame floors and other troubles spots are clean.
I'll bet there are more than just bad quarters on this car. 30K nope. You are into decent 442 money at 30K

For dollar reference

Where is that car from? I sold a guy a set of rear quarters off a 72 Supreme once for a red ragtop. He hacked those quarters off. Hacked them on too. Like was posted. Imagine the quality or lack there of on the rest of the car.

Yo Tom,

They're definitely not from South Philly. I can tell by their accents.....
They left in an Uber, went to Pat's Steaks and ordered a "Cheese Wit." LOL 😆

how true. Bill from Curious Cars posted a video of this car. He's pretty eccentric but funny. Called the girl snowflakes.
