71 Cutlass 'vert history?

Hi guys, I have been interested in the history of my 71 Cutlass Supreme convertible lately. I bought it at a auction in Lansing Mi in 1997. I asked the seller about the history of the car and he was very vague. I really think he was pissed and disappointed at the time because all his stuff sold pretty cheap, he was preparing to move to Texas and sold his stuff at the auction, not just car stuff all kinds of stuff. Anyway I found that he was a past president of the REOlds chapter of The Oldsmobile Club of America. He basically said he had bought the Olds and just kept it going and sold it at auction. At the time I didn't really care and I didn't really press him for info. Now I wish I would have. So now I am more interested in it's history. I looked on line at the GM Heritage Center ( I think it was) and they said Olds records weren't available older than 1977. I am interested which dealership it was sold thru, owners history, etc. You guys know any other way I could find this? Thanks Greg.

Look for your build sheet..it will have the dealer where it was delivered.

If the seller is still availible for comment maybe reach out to him. He had a lot going on at the time and now years later his view of that time may have softened and he may be more forthcoming.

Greg - Have you contacted the Michigan DMV to see what may, or may not, be able to be accomplished by a VIN/registration history search? Just a thought?

You're in Michigan ... is it possible the car was built or originally sold in Canada? If so, a lot of information is available through Vintage Vehicle Services --

https://www.vintagevehicleservices.com

I think the cost is over $100 now, but definitely worth it if you want to document your car.

Did you get any of the paperwork? The Protect O Plate will have the zone on it, and sometimes the Owners Manual will have the dealer's stamp. I'm sure you've looked there already.

Greg, get ahold of Ken Nicholas. He has been around the chapter for 3-4 decades. I was member and former president of the chapter myself from 98-2005. If you need his phone, I have that or he is our OCA zone rep. so his e-mail should be in JWO.

No build sheet or protectoplate. Yeah Pat you know the past president ( I think you and I talked about this before) but I didn't think I should put his name on the site, well maybe first name (John) , I think he is still a member of OCA. I tried to go on the OCA site and see if he is still a member but couldn't get past the password/ log in. I'll try again. That's a good idea to contact Ken or maybe the Badgleys. But I was actually asking was if there is a place like the Marti reports for Fords but for Olds? What kinda pics #1? Here's one....

Couldn't resist......

See post #5. This is your only shot -- I believe all the US stuff fell victim to a fire. It might not hurt to give VVS a call even if your car originated in the US. They might be able to offer some suggestions.

Thanks Ragtop, I know the car was produced in Lansing and pretty sure didn't go to Canada, but if I don't find anything else I may contact VVS. Ill follow up w/Pats suggestions.
