71 Cutlass Seats

I have a 71 convertible cutlass supreme and I want to change the front and rear seats to something more modern and comfortable that will bolt into the factory positions of the current seats. I have buckets in the front and bench in the rear with the lap belts but I want to install a more modern seat and seatbelts. I have looked on eBay and I have seen Olds Aleros, Nissan Maximas, and Cadillac CTS seats that looks like they may work but I am not sure they have the same bracket spacing. Does anyone know the dimensions of the seat brackets for any of these seats or have a suggestion as to which seats will fit in this car.

VERY doubtful (100%) you will find any modern seats that mount into the factory locations without major modification or adapters.

Freddie, I may be interested in your buckets if you plan to sell them and they are in good recoverable shape.

Nope. You will have to fabricate the appropriate mounts.

When I was working on my 72, I found the Alero seats were about the same size but mounts were different. A lot of the chevelle guys go with modern GTO seats front and rear. But lots of fab work there too.
I ended up adding some foam and covering mine in cloth.
I also went with retractable 3 point belts. I used the existing shoulder piece to make a drop sash for more comforable fit.

Question for you. I have a 71 Cutlass S with the multiple seat belts. The shoulder belts are unbelievably uncomfortable for me to use as the buckle ends up in the middle of my chest, and I hate all of those belts laying on the front seat, not to mention the safety benefit of shoulder belts. I want to put in shoulder belts from some other car - which is what I am assuming you did from your above picture. I like the way you made the drop harness out of your old belts that were attached to the ceiling? Can you give me a few more details on what seat belts you replaced your stock ones with and how you rigged up the drop harness? Did you have to have that professionally stitched or did you do it yourself? Thanks very much for your time - I appreciate it.

I bought aftermarket retactable 3 point belts off ebay. I first mounted the upper attachment point to the original location, but the belt cut across my neck. I ended up using the old upper belt and stitched it myself over the new belts upper bracket. Use heavy UV resistant thread and flame the end of the webbing to prevent it from unravelling.
I should have made the drop sash a couple inches longer, it would have been a little more comfortable.
