'71 442 convertible at Mecum

I'm in the market for an A body with a bench front seat, and there is a really nice looking '71 442 at Mecum in a few weeks. While it says it's a rare configuration, it doesn't actually state that the engine is numbers matching.

Does anyone know this car? Anything jump out at you from the available pics? I've registered to attend the auction, so will check it out in person then.

Gorgeous car but I guess that if it was matching they'd say so....also doubt if that is the factory color combo To me, original factory color affects value regardless of the color of a recent repaint.

For example, all else equal, to me an original triple black car (dunno if this is triple black tho) is worth more than a factory triple green car redone in all black. Others might not share that opinion however.

That car is nicely restored.
Ask the auction house for a photo of the cowl tag if you want to find out what color it started out life as.

Only 183 1971 442 convertibles were 4-speeds and of those 32 were W30s so that is a rare car. Many convertibles came with a bench seat - so that is not too unusual but the convertible, bench seat, 4-speed is a cool combination. Looks like a great restoration without being overdone. If you go just stick with a dollar amount you won't go over.

Hi. It looks good in the two pics you've posted. Post more pics if you can find more. It's kind of hard to form an opinion on just two pictures. ~BOB

The only pics I have are the ones available on the site that I linked to - but I'll attach them here so you don't have to open the link.

Thanks.

Cool. from what I can see it looks very well detailed. It has the feel of a Thornton car. Be prepared to pay big as cars like this one have gone out of sight at past auctions. ~BOB

That looks like Rick Hendrick's car. If so, then it will be north of $85,000. More info on it here:

Yikes. That does look like the same car. Unfortunately, there aren't a whole lot of convertibles at the auction on Friday/Saturday that would hold a family of six.

I'll buy a '67 Vette and tell the kids sorry, before I would spend that kind of money on anything else. Always been partial to the black with red stinger

Seriously, though, I'm certainly not dead set on the car. We are building a new Craftsman style house this fall, and I'm not spending close to $100k on a car. I plan on making the trip, and will see how things pan out.

Sometimes they say so even when it isn't...

Cutlass Clone at Mecum

I could be wrong but I think this is the same car that was at Mecum. Interesting the asking price and the auction price were fairly close I think I would have let it go, but it makes you wonder if the auction bid was real?

Side stripes are too low. But otherwise at first blush, it looks pretty sharp and clean.
