70 Delta 88 Cooling questions

My 1970 Delta 88 - 455/auto /AC
a) does not have an overflow tank for the radiator - did they ever?
Gets mighty hot around here in the summer.... will adding one violate rule to be considered 'stock'?

b) has an electric fan in front of the condenser/radiator coils and an controller sort of hanging on near the batters.

AC on means this front electric fan goes on.
Car gets warm - this fan goes on

Common? Car's not home from suspension work until tomorrow, so can't go take a pic.

Joe is the expert on all this. Does your rad cap have a dual seal? Of course it may have been changed over the years. That fan sounds like an aftermarket add on but you never know.

Far as I know, '70 fullsize did not have an overflow tank.
Add one if you want one, but don't forget to change the "Pressure" cap to a "Vacuum / Pressure" cap.

No GM car before the '90s had an electric cooling fan.
Sounds like someone tried to Band-Aid a problem that he couldn't understand.

No. No 1970 Oldsmobile came from the factory with an overflow tank, nor was one needed. These cars didn't overheat from the factory.

It didn't come from the factory, so it isn't "stock". Point would be deducted in an AACA or OCA judged competition.

It's an aftermarket fan that someone added. Also not stock and not needed from the factory. Overflow tanks and electric fans are bandaids that people add because they don't want to find and fix the real problem. Read this thread, particularly posts #6 and 9..

Whats with the concern about remaining stock when you already have an electric fan? Is your getting hot?

Haven't had the car on the road but twice and not hot weather yet. Since it is not stock, it will be coming off. I'm guessing it was put there maybe for put-put-parades in 100+ degree weather. No idea. thanks all.

Well, I was right - elec fan added for parades and this car has done many hot weather parades.

Did the Lincoln CA show Sunday -- load of compliments on the car - especially when people realized it is original unrestored and looks showroom worthy. Nice day. But the shot was 99.99999% hot rods with vary ver few70's cars.
