69 W-31 engine, need advice
69 W-31 engine, need advice
as some of you know. i bought out my friend that has the cars and parts that i have been selling the past year. i am in debt real deep to have bought it all. i know there is always controversy when trying to get the most out of parts but i am in a situation that requires me to get the most i can but want to still be fair. the questions i have on this engine and parts is what would be the best way to sell it? i have not got any idea what to price it at so i am thinking eBay. if i do eBay should i sell all the parts together? i have the 4 speed hole, clutch linkage, pedals and drive shaft all from the same car. i also have the bumper scoops (not that nice) and air cleaner that i think are from the same car. i would like to at least keep the engine, carb, and balancer together as a set. how do i determine if this air cleaner is from a 69 W car or not? i pulled the valve cover and it looks VERY clean inside. any thoughts? part it out? sell as a set? other.....
i have determined that i am in over my head
and to top that off i won't have much time to sell stuff for another 2 or 3 months.

part it our or sell it whole is your call
more money probably individually, but more hassle
I see a $600+ damper, $200 crank, $1000? carb maybe, $200+++?? distributor, PLUS all the MT stuff, and the basic 350 PLUS the W31 issue large valve heads.
It adds right up.
What is the carb #?
Dist'r number?

a friend has a video scope. i plan to look inside the spark plug holes and see if i can see any markings on the pistons. does anyone know the correct notches for the original flat top pistons? i know this engine was apart at some time because of the sealers on the gaskets. the guy i got it from said that it was rebuilt also. he thought it may not have the original pistons in it. i am thinking i may try to borrow a stand and get it fired up.
also, does anyone know the correct starter numbers for a 69 W-31. i have a box of starters from him and thought i would see if i have it.

Something this rare should be kept together and not seperated. The scoops and other stuff are no big deal. Buying collections are not always profitable. I know from experiance.
Sell the motor as a whole. Air cleaner to pan. Put it on a stand. Pull at least one head if not both along with the oil pan. This way you can see whats inside. Measure the intake valves. See what pistons it has and maybe check some bearings. Take lots of good detailed pics. List it as a complete rebuildable core. If it all checks out to be good and correct I would say you should get a minimum of at least $2500 plus.

i want to thank everyone for the comments and the PMs. they are very much appreciated and helped enormously. i will likely list this engine here first but i have to get caught up on some other stuff first.
W car registry so we know what became of it?
If I could find engine
VIN stamped
38M252205
I'd be all happy...
I have a '68 H/O Protecto=Plate but can't find the owner if the car still exists
from what i understand, this was removed from a car that was wrecked and i think scrapped. i would have to ask again. that would be awesome if the car was still alive and could be located. this engine came from a car in the Indianapolis area in the late 80s early 90s area.
