Ok, so maybe it's not so hard to believe, I paid 1000.00 for a nos left hand cutlass S quarter panel, and I am still looking for a right side.http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...K%3AMEWAX%3AIT

Not sure what your point is. It didn't sell, so that price is meaningless. More to the point, if you had a 69 H/O that was complete except for the intake, you'd certainly be thinking about it.

The bidding started off at close to what a w-30 intake would go for. WoW!

Yes, I do agree Joe, that is why I said that about my quarter panel.Still though,I sometimes cant believe what we are willing to pay to feed our passion.

In 1982 I found a complete 69 HO for 2000.00 At that time it might as well have been a million. I sure wish I could have bought it back then!

And yet, this one is more rare than a W-30 intake.

I think they need to reevaluate these parts prices. Like firefrost gold said, $5K for an intake, $7K for heads, $1K for a wheel, maybe $5K for an air cleaner (?), $5K for a hood, add in $10K for a quality engine rebuild and detailing, another $50K for a restoration, and you're over $80K, and haven't even included the price of the car. The last few H/O's that went through auction were show winners and fully documented, and didn't even crack $70K, and in the past 2 years many have sold for under $50K, or didn't meet reserves.

Hard to believe people are still paying this much for parts.

Two comments:

1. It's always cheaper to buy a complete car than to purchase all the parts separately.

2. If you're buying all these parts, you're building a clone, not restoring an original.

I understand the long lost intake - heck, mine was missing when I got my 69 (fortunately I found one decades ago). I understand needing a replacement head (though there has been a single D head for sale in JWO for many months now for $800). I still maintain that if you need heads, intake, air cleaner, etc, etc, you don't have a H/O to start with and you had better not have paid very much for it.

There seems more that have come and gone that need the air top heads mirrors intake than not even some of the 30,000 plus cars need them. Would like to know how many have all the right parts . Lots of rebuilt, repurposed parts over the years . I have only seen one NOT that I have seen a tone of them in all.
