68 Ramrod?

My e-bay saved searches sent me this one this a.m. Since it's not a 69, I don't know zippo about it. I just thought it might make for some informative discussion.

So learned Olds gurus, What's the straight skinny?

I can't see EBay at work. Can you copy and paste some info onto the thread?

The "Ramrod" name was given to the '68 W-31s, and they displayed the Ramrod name on the air cleaner and the front fenders.
That E-bay car appears to be legit, but one of the big problems with W-31s are that short of documentation, they are virtually impossible to authenticate.
I *think* the '68 W-30s had "Ramrod 400" on the air cleaner, though just "W-30" on the fenders.

Some clarification on the "Ram-Rod": They did not have the Ram Rod name on the air cleaner in 1968. That showed up in 1969. Authentication is tough but some things are tough to duplicate such as the extra thick harmonic balancer, tinny sounding trunk lid, and no drilled holes for the windshield washer bottle on the driver's side. Actual production numbers are very vague but good sources tell me that only a little over 500 were produced.

There's this one too.

Andy, I think he sold the last one for $20,000..... (he had two 68 ramrods))

I'm pretty sure this is the same one he's had for sale for a while (off & on). It's a nice car if it's the one I think it is. Kind of an older restoration but pretty correct. I didn't think he had any paperwork for it though.

That one doesn't give you much to see. The black car is really nice, I'd have no problem paying 20k for a nice one one, seems like a deal?

The Sullivan resto guide says the '68 Ram Rod 350's (W-31) should have;
  • Special 350ci engine
  • Special 4 barrel carb
  • Number 5 cast on the front and rear of the left cylinder head, same as the standard 350 but the W-31 has larger 455 valves
  • Manual brakes only
  • M for Lansing in the VIN
  • All '68's were 3 0r 4 speed manual trans
  • Heavy duty radiator - 4 row
  • Special harmonic balancer
  • Black plastic fenderwells with holes for forced-air scoops
  • 308degree cam means a much rougher idle than the standard L-74 350

It would be hard to tell the real thing, if it was a good deal I wouldn't care either way, equal amount of fun..

Ah, that's it! There's nothing particularly GT about it, so maybe that's why I never noticed it. lol.

It isn't the one I've seen.....I saw 2 green ones, I missed that it was black. John Ebbs is pretty good with the paperwork. If he says it's documented it probably is.

Ram Rod 350

I ordered and was delivered in mid 1968 a Cutlass convertible that had the Ram Rod 350 package with a 3 speed floor shift, was red with black top and interior. Awesome car, unfortunately I sold it in the mid 70's before anyone understood what the heck it was. Interesting thing is that almost no one acknowledges that this car was built. I don't have the VIN but am going to search the property tax records in my home town to see if I can come up with it. Paid all of $3,100 for that puppy brand new....it didn't have the small decals on the front fenders but I added them later....the only other way to tell that it had a special package was of course the under bumper air scoops. Did sound awesome though, had minimal mufflers and no resonators. Would pull up to 6000 rpm without even breathing hard...had a special heavy duty clutch, etc. Would love to find that thing in someone's hands that doesn't know what it is
