'68 Cutlass seat relocation
'68 Cutlass seat relocation
I've got a question. I've purchased seat track extenders for my '68 Cutlass convertible but that will only give me an extra 2 inches. Has anyone ever relocated their bucket seats further back? I'm not concerned about lack of legroom for the rear passenger. I'm 6'6" and could really use the extra legroom. Thanks!
I made mine at 2" out of 1/4" plate and never loosened at all. I guess you could make a set up with 3" and 4" holes why not? unless the floor drops or raises too much.. All you got to lose is some time and some scrap steel. I made my first set out of thin steel and yes they did feel flimsy, but if you make them out of 1/4 or thicker should be ok. Oh also with mine at 2" the lower seat belt mount is really close to the seat adjuster ****. I guess if you went 3" or 4" your adjuster **** will be behind the belt mount- Oh and also now I'm thinkin about it I'm not sure how far you can go back before the holes for the inner seat belts in the seat are behind the seat belt mounts on the floor( hump). I am 6'3" and 2" makes a huge difference. OK I just went back and reread - you have buckets, I have a bench so I am really no help. I still say give it a try!
I saw the following post on the Performance Years Pontiac site. In the post, the author included a link to a .pdf file that contains detailed instructions and pictures of the installation of bucket seat extenders in a ‘70 GTO.

A note of caution, by moving the seat back a couple of inches, you may find that now the seat adjustment **** is interfered with by the lap belt winder that is located on the floor between the seat and the door.
