Question 68 Cutlass Instrument Lights don't work

Hi,
I have traced the lights not working to the posts on the rear of the speedometer "flex circuit" (I am not sure of the correct name) have come loose. See attached picture. Can this part be purchased separately or do I need to find another speedometer?
Any help will be appreciated.

If it is the male pins that connect to the wiring harness, they can be soldered back on. I had that problem on my 68 Supreme. I got some small nails that would fit snugly into the pin. I would cut the nail so that about 1/16" of the nail extended past the end of the pin that fastens to the printed circuit board. This will act as a dowel to align the pin to the board. Make sure that all parts are clean before soldering. Use a pencil type of soldering iron so you don't burn up the board.

One other thing. 50 year old dash grounds are often poor. Run a dedicated ground wire to all of the dash components that need a good ground. Extend the wire long enough to fasten to the body of the car.

Here is a 68 that I did recently repaired. The green wire is the dedicated ground

Good luck

Thanks Steve for your time on this. Do you recommend removing the whole dash as you show here or can each of the three be taken out separately?

Jared, I assumed from your photo that the dash was out of the car. Either one is not an easy task. I have done both. Prepare to remove one or both front seats, the console, steering wheel and if your car has A/C you will need to remove a lot of duct work just so you to give you access. The gauges are held in by two 1/4" headed screws that are on the sides of each gauge at the 4 and 8 o'clock position. Study my photo for there position. The top portion for the dash is held in by 7 or 9 1/4" or 5/16" nuts. You will need to check your assembly manual for there position.
If the dash is in the car, how do you know that a pin has broken off? Do the other dash lights work? If so, have you checked the bulb, Try running a ground wire from the gauge to and bare metal on the body.
I don't think I would do this just for a dash light. When your ready to restore the entire dash you can do it then.
Here the section of the 68 assembly manual that shows the dash.

Hi Steve,
I used a photo I found on the forum just to communicate. I have small hands and could take most of the bulbs out to see if they were burned out. In doing so I could see one of the posts of the connector had come loose when I attempted to remove the connector. The lights on the speedometer will work if I hold the connector in-place with the pull switch on. One light works but is very faint on the fuel gage and idiot lights. Sounds like the ground wire should help there. I purchased the car a few weeks ago and was looking to get it to pass the safety inspection.
Thanks for the section of the assembly manual and your time on this.
Jared
