So I got the new dash from Ron in and the new dash wiring harness in and all new fuses and everything works but all the dash lights including the dummy lights, turn signal indicators and back lighting. Any Ideas?

 

Not sure about the turn indicators - that may be you just don't have both of the flashers in? Check the rheostat for dimming the dash lights. Do you have it cranked all the way off?? Either that or you have a bad electrical connection somewhere. Check them to make sure they're tight.

 

I would check your grounds.

The idiot lights generally work by grounding through their respective sender switches, but all of the others have to have a ground to work.

Make sure that all of that nice, new, perfect paint on all of those surfaces isn't insulating the dash from the car - I'd probably just run a ground from a central dash point to a solid metal bit and see what happens.

I put an extra ground on mine from the screw that makes the ground from the lighter area to the back of the printed circuit to the steering column mount. Made a great difference. Also on all the dash mounts to the metal of the dash I used those little star type grounding washers. Can't be too careful with wiring.

 

X3 guys on the grounds, if I recall correctly the copper ground from the back of the pass side head to the firewall is the ground for sat least the dash? My example is from my 64 F-85 Pro-Touring build and is attached to the valve cover.

 

Bad ground, bad ground, that's grounds for creating electrical gremlins. Yes, these old cars are notoriously dependant on grounds. Hope the problem gets solved without grounds for going nuts.

 

Thanks guys. Yeah I'm going to try and add a ground strap from the dash to the firewall and see what happenes. It's just frustrating cause everything is new.

 

At the risk of sounding stupid, what DOES work? The fuel gauge and high beam indicator? Rally or standard dash?

If a standard dash, maybe a bad pin or solder landing on the PC?

 

Now that I think about it. The only thing that does is the fuel gauge. It's a standard dash. And the headlight switch is brand new and turned up.

 

there should be a ground wire in the harness i believe, somewhere above the steering column/ brake pedal bracket. It grounds to that bracket with a 1/4 inch hex head screw. However extra grounds cant hurt anything. Battery to engine, engine to frame and firewall.

 

Yea all that is their. I'm just at a lose.

 

How about the lights in the radio & ash tray? If they work and the bulbs in the cluster don't, it is something with the wiring to or on the circuit board. If none of them work, I would look at your new harness.........
