68 442 Intake anomaly?

Has anyone witnessed this hex head pipe plug in the heat riser crossover on a 68 400/400?...400 ci (6.6L) TH400 trans.
Early build Z code (Fremont) 09C.(Sept 1967).

Never seen that from the factory. It looks like it was done over the years for an exhaust gas temp probe or something.

I've never seen that either. Maybe some kind of repair for a defect in the casting like a pin hole???

EGR wasn't a thing yet, so either repair like said, or something with the choke (even though it's on the wrong side) is about all I can think of.
