'68 442/Cutlass fender peak moldings

Has anyone done any research or have any theories on '68's having come originally with one piece '69 style moldings? Possibly a late production year change or plant variation? I see a lot of high end '68's without the two piece moldings. With neither style being reproduced (to my knowledge), at least that is not a factor in what you see 50 years later.

Any thoughts or opinions folks?

The one piece molding was added to the 68 assembly manual 2-15-68. The 68 end pot metal is all that is reproduced but since every 442 and Cutlass S had them both the 68 and 69 stainless pieces they are pretty easy to find used

My 68 came with the two piece molding. I was unaware that that year also had the 69 style molding. My 68 did not have the molding on the left side but I found a rust free left fender that had it on it. I did replace the short cast aluminum piece.

Thanks allyolds68, that explains the variations I noticed. My '68 is a late June build, which explains why it has the 1 piece moldings, that sure looked original to the car. This also reinforces my need to get an Assembly Manual for the '68....

Appreciate the tip, thanks!
