68 442 Cowl Tag Decode

I just purchased this car from a garage that the guy couldnt pay for the work so he signed the car over the them. They told me it was a 68 Cutlass race car with no interior, just a roller.

Much to my surprise when I showed up, it was a 442 car, no engine or trans. Missing the bumpers, grill and door glass.

I am looking for some help to decode the fisher tag. Any help is appreciated.

11E = 5th week of November 1967 assembly date
006747 & 710515 are assembly plant codes and are used specifically at the plant
34477 = 4-4-2 Sports Coupe
BF = ? Assembly Plant?
00098 = unit #
940 = Black interior with strato bucket seats
B80 = Chrome roof drip moldings
B90 = Chrome window frame
T = Ivory Lower exterior color
2 = Black vinyl top

The rest someone can help you out on. I hope this helps.

Well sorry to break the news it's not a 442 it's a sports coupe and they do look a lot alike as it has the same hood and tail lights. That's nice though it has it has the rally pac. the paint color is Ivory with a black vinyl top I believe.

Interesting. Build date of fifth week of Nov, 1967 and it has a 344 Fisher Body tag. I guess Fremont used the 344 Fisher body tags on 442s whereas the other assembly plants continued to use 336 body tags. Yet another difference between Fremont and the rest of the world.

Also interesting is the BF00098 consecutive unit number--very low, especially with the November build. Did Fremont number things differently than Lansing?

And what are the rest of the numbers after the 11E build date at the top of the tag?

And why the sideways 2 on the top left corner that was impressed in?

The 442 body tag is a nice perk on the Fremont cars, was really irritating trying to explain the cutlass tag back in the 90s on LAN cars. I checked my tag and it has a #1 where his #2 is.

Great buy!

Actuallly, I think it was only Lansing that used the 336 body tags for 442's as their bodies were made off-site at the Fisher Body plant in Lansing and then shipped over to the Oldsmobile plant. Fisher had no knowledge of whether or not the body was going to be used as a 442 so they all got 336 tags. The other assembly plants' bodies were made on-site.
