'67 Turnpike compression

Was the compression 10.50:1 like the 442, or lower (9.0:1) as in '68-69? If the higher compression, was the only difference the intake and carb on this engine?

Compression on that year was defined by the piston - the deeper the dish, the lower the compression.
You can get a thicker head gasket to lower the compression - custom thickness can even lower it 1-2 points, but can be costly.

But what was the factory compression ratio for the Turnpike in '67? Was the only difference in the engines between the 442 & Turnpike in '67 the carb and intake?

I think so, [10.5] but only about 80% sure.
I had a '73 Buick SX w/ a 2bbl. and was told it was the only difference, but that was after they dropped ALL compression ratios.
You'd get better MPG and performance with the Q-Jet, as the primaries are smaller than the 2-bbl., and then you've the secondaries - if you can keep your foot out of it!!
BTW - the rear end ratios were in the mid 2's - great on the hwgy, but not too good for the 'stoplight drags'.

Trying to i.d. a car for sale, not listed as a Turnpike, but has 400 2bbl and sticker on the valve cover stating 10.50:1 compression. owner has no paperwork.

I woud think it is a T/pike Cruiser athough a build sheet would confirm it, obviously.
I don't remember any markings, either inside or out making a designation, athough a rear-end ratio would confirm it a little more.
It was a little known option, except for 'rumrunners'!!

All TP's had the Climatic Combustion system and a 256 rear gear and dual exhaust.

Yo guys this info is in the factory specs at Wild About Cars at http://wildaboutcarsonline.com/membe..._Section_0.pdf

PS, it was the same as the regular 442 @ 10.5:1

Never speculate - use quality reference materials. That's what WAC is all about.
