'66 F-85 Window-Crank Handle

I'm looking to remove the plastic **** on a pitted window-crank handle and put the (restored) **** on a new handle. Thinking I'll drill out, tap, etc. Anyone ever do this? Any tips?

I've seen a 'repair kit' that had a special sized screw to replace the **** rivet. I'll see if I can find the info...

The metal piece is a barbed post that goes into the **** and is meant to be a one time use. You may be able to separate it without destroying the **** by heating the part that is on the back of the handle and pulling the **** off when the plastic softens up around it. Then use an epoxy to glue it back in on the new handle.

go to autozone type place..walk to the HELP section...you will find a service **** but more importantly it comes with the rivit you need to do what you want.....have done it 100 times...prob is..the HELP section is getting hard to find and moving towards the newer cars...

That's a pretty cool way of doing it also.

i understand that..the rivit is the same...i recently did it on my 66 Skylark..i broke the ****..i happened to have the help piece and sure enough it worked...

the **** you will find is for the 68 up style crank....and that went all the way to the 90s..

the NCRS thing is neat...but the Help piece is a barbed blind rivit...its a friction piece....it works one time, one way...you push it in and its done and you dont get a second shot at..i had to trim the rivit length to go on a 66 crank

by the way..ford sells a repair piece for their cranks...its a ****, rivit, washer, ...you throw it all away and use the rivit...its too long...but to me it looks like the same supplier did the Ford and GM cranks (or at least they used to...)

man..i need to do some small videos on this stuff...this and other things that seem so simple to me, has never been seen before i guess and ive been doing it for 30 years,,because as a body man i quess i experimented more and we fixed what we had..and it all goes back to when i grew up...there was nothing reproduced...i think the first stuff i ever saw repoped was Mustang stuff.
