Hey guys... I'm tired of trying to fix hesitation off idle with this 2bbl (2GC) after a rebuild and pointless ignition upgrade it still wants to stall on take off. I'm ready for an upgrade to a 4bbl and intake. I don't care if it's a rochester set up or not. I'm willing to go to Summit if it's possible. Anyone know if there is a good kit out there for my 394 with a 3 speed slim jim tranny? I read there is linkage issues with the TV rod, but I'm willing to fabricate something to make it work.
Before committing to changing your manifold and carb ,
You may want to re-visit the hesitation off idle problem first .
There are several causes for an off idle hesitation .
Accelerator pump , mis-adjusted or defective , check to see if two steady streams of gas in carb throat . When accelerator is opened suddenly.
Re-visit the carb rebuild instruction to make sure the pump rod is installed in the proper hole .
Ignition timing , when you put the "pointless ignition " in did you check your timing at idle with a timing light ? It may have changed .
If you do decide to go to a four barrel , as you saw already , the slim jim is very fussy about throttle linkage adjustments .
I would stick to a 4GC Rochester from 61 thru 64 and stock throttle to trans linkage .
An Edelbrock carb will require expert throttle linkage modifications to work with a slim jim .

Great advice Charlie. I will look into the 2GC adjustments again.. I did replace the accelerator pump and connected the pump rod at the point where the pump was already starting its stroke as suggested by many. I saw a few videos that shows holes or small channels below the butterflies that need to be cleaned out so that off idle acceleration is not an issue. My carb doesn't have those holes so I don't know if that is an issue or not. Also, the rebuild kit I purchased did not come with replacement jets. Is it possible to clean them out if they are gummed up and causing a not so steady stream if gas?
I did check the timing after the points eliminator ignition and it seem to be a little higher than the stock 5 degrees above TDC with the vacuum advance disconnected and plugged on the engine side. The timing is at about 10 degrees above TDC with the new ignition. I also adjusted the idle fuel mixture with a vacuum gauge to make sure I have the optimum vacuum pressure which is about 21 pounds.
