62 Jetfire's with his and hers shifters.....
Well, Not Hurst Dual Gate "His Hers" shifters but two cars, One with 4 speed shifter and one with automatic shifter.
We just picked up the 62 Jetfire 4 speed car that is on the trailer. Stefano found the car and hooked me up with who had it. My wife loves the idea of it being the same color as her automatic car so we can have a his and hers car. It needs tones of work and will not be on the road any time soon. It was parked in 1974 with 44,000 miles on it. It does not have the original paint and does have some rusty areas. The engine is not locked up but will very likely need rebuilt. I have many things to do and don't have time for this car at this time. I will park it and get to it at a later time.
I am told that only 50 4 speed Jetfires were built in 62 but not sure there are documents to prove that. I may contact Kurt and see if he can find documents to back that up.

Nice car, I thought it had the shifter cover that I'm looking for for my starfire. I bought a 61 F-85 a couple of weeks ago for my son. Did you see the convertible jetfire at the nats? Wayne had me make set of trim for it.

I took a break from the 35 Huber tractor tonight for about a half hour. I swapped out the battery in this Jetfire and checked some things. The heater fan, 2 speed wipers, all lights/signals, and even the AM radio work perfect. I bumped the starter for a very split second to see if it would engage and it did. I don't want to crank it yet. I am going to change the oil and filter and pull the distributor and prime the oil for a long time. Likely change the oil again before I attempt to crank it. I should pull the valve covers and check for a stuck valve but not sure if I will. The gas gauge went from empty to 3/4 so I am hoping it is working. The gas has to be drained out because it is from 1974. Also need to change the fuel filter. I will not likely do much to it for a while but just excited that most of the electronics is working.

It may be a good idea, if possible, to replace the gas tank with a new one, just to make certain no foreign matter is delivered into the engine. Wouldn't want to take a chance on contaminating anything at this point, especially since it seems the engine is not seized or has any internal damage.

I am VERY happy right now. When Stefano sent me pictures of this car, the cowl tag had something on it to make the date look like a March build date and that made the engine dates to new for the car. We had thought the engine was changed at some point. Tonight I started looking at much of the car closer and found out that the picture was not clear enough because it is a June car and the engine dates line up perfect. I do not have the Protect O Plates to prove it is the original engine but I know it is. It is a 44,000 mile car parked in 1974 and never was even taken in for the Jetfire engine recall. If the engine would have been changed it for sure would have had the update. This even has the original shocks on it.

I little investigative work today. Found a service receipt in the glove box. It is dated 6-19-70 and shows the spark plugs, points, cap and rotor replaced. Funny thing is, They did not replace the plug wires because they are the original 2Q-62 plug wires. They did not document the miles on the receipt but on the next day (06-20-70) he had the oil changed and the decal is still on the door. This documented the miles with 42,724 on it. The people I got it from said it was parked in 1974 and it still has the 1974 plates on it. The odometer shows 44,027 miles now. That is only 1303 miles from 1970 to 1974. I assume the oil in the car now is 45 years old, EW!!!
The title to it is the original 1962 title. The original owner is 100 years old from what I am told.
I don’t plan to attempt to start it till next summer. I plan to pull the pipe from the manifold to the turbo and make a temporary one that will just blow out the front of the car with the hood up. I am sure the pipes are full of rust and don’t want to blow that stuff through the turbo. Will also have to do many other things to prepare for a start up after it sit this long. The car will be a major project just to get running, driving, and stopping.

I am just itching to clean this car up and start working on it but I can't yet. Still have way to many things to do before I can touch this one. I got the extra engine from Ken and not even sure what I am going to do with it.

Hard to believe I got this car a year ago. I have not cleaned it and don't plan to till I get it road worthy. I love the "as found" look. I have done little work to it but did do enough work to know it is capable of running. I ran a float bowl full of gas through it last winter. I hope to start some work on it this fall but not holding my breath.
