62 88 and 64 starfire trans

62 88 and 64 starfire trans

I might be in need for a trans for my 62 / olds 88 , found a 64 starfire not to far from my home , are they the same trans , I heard the slim jim was in olds from 61 to 64 , I am looking just in case my 62 can not be fixed , Thanks Dennis

The biggest problem I see in this swap , is that the speedometer was driven off the transmission tailshaft in 62 . In 64 it was not , it was driven off the left front wheel .
You may need to swap out the tail housing and output shafts.

thanks for the reply , just have to hope they can fix my trans then , so hard to find 62 trans , thanks again

They might need some of the parts from the 64 trans.
Most of the internal parts are interchangeable .
