Many of you guys probably already know me and my car but 1965 Delta 88 Holiday here ordered with Police package components. Reinforced frame, Hd brakes and some other tidbits I have yet to discover. Hard to find parts but have received help from many ppl on here getting parts from other big cars in the same year range
Think I'll join you guys. This is my 65 starfire I've had for about three years. When I bought it the previous owner had pit in a 1970 455 with a 30 over bore on it, fully worked over E cast heads, 10.5:1 compression and small cam. Car has a posi a shift kit and is a total sleeper haha. Currently rebuilding the engine again, going with aluminum heads, lunati voodoo cam, 3000 rpm stall, race ignition, timing gear drive, roller rockers, full slick in the rear etc. No body work though keeping the beater look cause even though its straight piped no one ever expects it to be quick I love the old boats and I'm happy I'm not the only one haha!
Another glutton for punishment here, ha ha. At least it was self inflicted. Mine were former abandoned/unused cars. I bought them to part out or sell but I took a liking to them and they became my "money pits". My plan was to get into my Oldsmobiles pretty much full time once I retired. I've been retired for almost 4 years and I jokingly say now I don't have any time for them. I pulled a Monte Carlo out of storage to sell a month ago, big mistake. I've been messing around with it for a month. I've put $1100 + quite a bit of time in it. It's a warmed over 406. I'm hoping to take it to the dragstrip with for sale sign. I should be able to "give" it away seeing it's a Chevrolet. Then I'll be able to get back to my Money pits.
Anybody put 17" wheels on their B body? Let me know what you bought and tire size if you would. I tried searching the archives but not much there. Since my wheel cylinder incident a few years ago I am going to go to dual master with disc fronts and a 17 " wheel. I want to keep my skirts, I know it's a matter of taste. Thanks
I'm not sure of the size but 62 starfire63 installed new tires and rims on his 63 starfire convertible, check his build thread and he has pictures up showing the set up.

I can tell you from personal experience that 17" by 8 1/2" wheels and 255-50-17 tires will fit and clear although the skirts may be a problem. I tried to use a set of 94-96 Chevy Impala SS wheels and tires. The problem I ran into was the stock wheel studs, they were too short for the wheel thickness and the stock lug nuts have the wrong bevel angle and chew up the wheels. Due to the left hand thread on the left side correct nuts were not available and I did not want to change out all the lugs so I stayed with steel wheels. I've seen a number of cars running other types of mags so I'm sure you can find a solution. Good luck.
Don, thanks for the info. I have already changed the studs on the left rear to RH and will be doing the front when I go to Disc on the front. Not hard to go to longer studs if I have to. I do want to keep my skirts, those Chevy wheels look great but like you said it might be tight fit with skirts. Where did you get the OLds centers?

Never actually got to Olds centers but I would have probably had some stickers made.

Thanks Don, I saw what was going on with the 46-48 group post and the 54-56 posts and thought it might work for the 60's guys as well.
It's a nice place for us "Darksiders" to get together and discuss "Big Cars" away from the "Cutlass Crowd".
I started this thread in Aug. of 2014 and it languished a couple of times, sometimes for six months or more. But, it seems to have gotten it's "second wind" lately.

Hello, new 61 owner here, I love the idea of the "dark side" for these cars. I made sure my car was 100% complete before I bought it because of my previous restoration experience. Heck, it can be hard to find parts for a popular 50+ year old car much less on obscure "off" brand. I told my wife I must have a thing for dead marques....Ive owned Pontiacs, Plymouths, Mercurys, Oldsmobiles and even a Nash.
Here are a couple of shots of our new toy. Mostly it needs interior work. I want to either go stock with red/black instead of red/white or go with a Starfire interior with the bucket seats. If I don't use the stock back seat, what year Starliner back seat will work; aren't all 61 Starliners convertibles? A friend of mine says he knows where there is a Starliner in a salvage yard a good ways from here but not sure of the year. he says it has a complete interior.
I would like to change out the wheels for something larger diameter but I keep hearing negatives....what is the ideal wheel/tire combo for a car that is meant to be driven?
The 61 starfire seats have the steel back and are 1 year only however the 62 starfire coupe seats will fit the floor pans and the console and tach are the same, the difference is in the placement of the power vent window switches. I think a car from 61 converted to a starfire would look cool. I don't know about the rear seat other then the coupe seat is wider then the convertible.

If those dog dish caps and redlines are 14" and have decent tread left, and you're thinking of changing them out - PM me.
Frankly, I'd keep what you have. Then again, get rid of them, buy something new and pass them on to me! I think they are Super
This is my 1964 Olds Dynamic 88; it was a farm yard find here in Los Lunas, New Mexico. Originally sold in Albuquerque at Galles Motors, which is still in business today, it spent the last 15+ years in a farm yard. I spotted it on CL and contacted the guy, although I've generally been a Chevy/Pontiac kind of guy (impalas, bonnevilles...still big cars, don't worry).
We got along well and because I want to restore it the old owner gave me a great deal. The car had been in his family for years and he wanted to see it taken good care of...I still send them pics of the project from time to time.
I had to go through several systems (fuel, cooling, brakes, some electrical, wasp nest removal, lol, etc), but it's pretty much a daily driver now, if you don't mind the clattering lifters, blue smoke, low oil pressure, occasional fowled plug and puddles of oil and trans fluid.
Currently I'm saving money for the engine/transmission rebuild.

what i would think would be cool is a set of pontiac 8-lug wheels on that 61.i bet the olds aluminum wheel cover centers would fit.

Hi everyone.. Just found this thread. I got one of those fulls size cars too.... I love full size 4 doors, weather it Chevy Buick or Mopar... Ended up with this one was not the plan A, but now I am teeeaaallly happy with it.... Its really rare here in Denmark, Scandinavia.

Well, the wheels are 15"......is that stock? Regardless I like them......alot actually and I think they will influence the "build" direction I'm going to take. The car stops really well for 4wd so I'd like to build it into a factory "sleeper" thinking low psi Paxton into a single 4bbl and maybe convert it to a stick shift.
