57 olds oil leak

Took my 57 olds out cruising today with my wife. Car runs excellent! I was curious though if any one had any suggestion on a front seal oil leak i have had for about the last 20 years. Cost way too much to tear it down and fix it. I know a lot of these cars all leak a little bit. She doesn't leak that bad but if there is something decent i could throw into the engine i will. Any suggestions if not i don't want to put crap into a good running motor!

Thanks for any feedback

In my opinion you might as well just put money in the crankcase. I have never seen any of this stuff you add to a crankcase do any good. I am not sure you can keep one of these old motors from leaking. If somebody has a first generation Olds motor that does not leak, I would like to know it.

There are no magic cures in a bottle. I'd just replace the seal.

Just curious do you run synthetic oil ? when I did my engine at least doubled in the size of puddle it left on the drip pan.

Often that puddle doesn't really amount to much oil though my wife swears the car is leaking all over the place.A oil cap full dropped on a drip pan will spread out the size of a garbage can lid if let alone over night.Your leak may be more a of an annoyance than a serious problem....... Tedd

Next week I'm tearing down our original '55 Ninety Eight to replace the timing chain, front seal, and get the radiator rebuilt. I'll let you know how it goes. It's intended to be our Great Race rally car for next summer.

57 olds oil leak

Thanks for the input guys, i agree with all of you. It is more of a nuisance than a major leak. i do not use synthetic oil. I run castrol 20w-50 in her. I will leave her alone. Just need to clean up the oil and grease underneath her from oil leak as you drive.

Thanks
