455 starter - mini starter 10 to 1 compression

Hi , my powermaster 3655 starter died after 6 months, I thought I saw here a discussion about a mini starter that used the purple wire also, or just the easiest mini starter to install, Thanks Tim

How "mini" do you need. I've had good luck with my Powermaster 9510. Engine is 12:1 hot.

Fleming, I had the original size one in there, just need one with more ***** to turn it over, so it looks like mini, does it use the purple wire? or what do you do with it? thanks Tim

All starters use the purple wire, most mini starters do not use the yellow resistance bypass wire.

If your running points you'll need it and there is a diode mod you can perform to make it operate correctly. If you're not using points, then cap and stow it in the harness.

It's definitely smaller than stock, but not 4 3 Chevy small.
Yes, it has a solenoid to use the purple. I was pleasantly surprised that the parts are readily available and not crazy expensive.

I've used that starter since 2004 and it still turns my 455 effortlessly and quietly.
If you're done with Powermaster, RobbMc makes a good one and is a prince to deal with. He'll even work with you if anything goes wrong in the future.

I have the Rob MC gear reduction mini starter in my Cutlass. It's a 10.5:1 403 with a hot Lunati cam. It's been through a flood and installed since 2015 with no issues..

This is that diode harness. I did not know much about selecting diodes, so I ended up buying one of these:
