455 info needed

Hello all
Not sure if this the right place to post this but could someone tell me if there is a difference between a 1971 455 out of a cutlass, and one out of a 98 or 88. Can I achieve the same HP/torque , is it worth rebuilding or is it a waste of time. is there anything I should look out for.

Im pretty sure in .71 you could get a high or low compression in the A body not sure about the B body...but the engines are the same other than different components ...starter,alternator...if the car had a/c etc

Two vs four barrel carbs and manifolds could be different

if you build it right, you will not have problems, [usually.]

I swear I just saw and answered this question.

Did you, perhaps, post two identical threads?

And, no, Pogo, only low compression 455s were available in 1971.

Ok , thx for the correction must of been 70 then?
I guess that was a shame for the 71 model, the HP took a hit then

'70, for sure, but I checked the '71 CSM before posting the answer in his other thread, and they were definitely 8.5:1 across the board.

There were some other makes that still had some high-comp. motors in 1971, though.

If you plan on a rebuild it really doesn't matter as you can install whatever pistons you want to.
