A fact pretty well glossed over in the article.
Personally, I think the article's author comes across quite fruity:
"Oh, the variable ratio seemed ill suited for some of the tighter curves that chassis seemed to relish; doubtless our speed slowed the steering by just that much, confounding our desires"
What's this waxing poetic crap? This is a musclecar for crying out loud! Holy relishing chassis!!!!
And he certainly went too far when describing Senior's "ephemera collection" as "His office must have more Olds records and paperwork than anywhere this side of Lansing".
Well I must be on the other side of Lansing, because I can guarantee you he has no idea how much *I* have!
Actually, the correct reference would have been "outside" of Lansing, and he should have accurately stated that it was large, impressive, and such rather than make an absolute statement that *could* be false. Indeed, like *he* would know.....

Okay, so the coupe is a tribute car, I didn't read where they were trying to hide that fact. Even if it is a clone, it's a damn nice one and I'm just surprised they would drive it at all.
I wasn't offended by the author's choice of words either, it can't be easy to think of something new to say about these cars after nearly 40 years.

My friend who owns a hot rod/classic/muscle car locating lot gave me his issue of Hemmings. I've never cared for the mag myself.
Yeah they pretty much glossed over the fact that it's not real. Why not run an story on the original w/100k that is 'cleaner than most restorations'?

Yeah...Hemmings...they can't find a car for the mag that's not a clone? Why weren't they at the OCA Nats in Sturbridge? Maybe they were, but I know what their editors look like and I didn't see them. There were plenty of REAL cars there to photo or write up. I think there muscle mag is slipping! I long for the old issues of Musclecar Review, not the new version. They couldn't take one pic under the hood of the W 'vert? Where are all these rally red cars coming from, I don't recall seeing that many back in the 70's, now they are all rally red!

Geez, I read that article twice and missed that it is not a real one - glossed over indeed! I do know they added some extra options.
It said they used a gold 442 as its base and I thought in 70 the 442 came with the W30.
Where did I misread?
Too much pizza and beer at bedtime glosses the brain I guess...

Hemmings thinks they cover all muscle cars but they dont. Olds is the least covered of them all. Theres been more AMCs than Oldsmobiles. HMM has been published for 8 years now, and they havent featured a 65, 67, 68 or 69 442.

I don't think HMM has an anti-Olds bias, didn't they select an Olds for musclecar of the year, two years in a row? Also, an Olds usually makes their cover at least once a year. I would contact HMM and let them know what cars you would like to have featured. The only other magazine that has more Olds coverage is probably Journey With Olds.

Muscle car of the Year was a fan vote, had no input from HMM.
Tell me another reason why those 442 models havent been featured but six cylinder Maverick Grabbers, Cobra II Mustangs, and Shelby Dodges have.
The pre 1970 442s do not exist to them.
