442 emblem removal

The previous owner of my 65 Cutlass (he admitted he was a Chevy man) got some stick on type 442 "scoop" emblems that look like the ones they put on the 65 442. They look nice but the "Cutlass" is still on the front fenders so I don't want both of course. Since it's not a real 442 I want them off, even though "mechanically" (and then some) it will be shortly.

The question is how to safely remove these things without harming the paint. I can see there are some pads, like those dual sided stick'm types. I was thinking of softening them up with something like WD-40 or Amsoil metal protector that would penetrate and breakdown the sticky stuff, and maybe a little warming from a hair dryer. I know NOT to use something like Goof Off. Any experience? ??? My car has great paint.

WD40 will sink in and act as a release agent. It will not damage paint. Use a plastic bondo spreader to gently dislodge the emblem.

3M makes a spray on emblem release spray.

A heat gun and plastic trim tools will do it as well.

I use fish line. Use the fish line just as you would wire to cut out a windshield. The use whatever you think works best to remove the remaining residue.

A heat gun will work great but probably not a hairdryer.
