425 transplant
425 transplant
i am new to the site, seems like a pretty nice place. i am looking at the possibility of dropping a 425 into a 66 chevrolet short box step side truck was curios if anyone has ever done a swap like this, it will also be coupled to a muncie 4 speed.

Can't say I've heard of this particular swap, but anything's possible. Guess it all depends on what you already have laying around. If you have a BB Olds and Muncie with Olds bell housing, looking for a home, then why not. Personnally, I'd just drop in a Chevy SB, and call it a day. Not 100% sure, but think some mid 70's GMC pick up's had Olds engines in them. Also recall hearing 70's Cadillac Sevilles(really Chevy Nova's) had Olds engines in them too, so can't be that hard of a transplant.
Your going to have to fab some motor mount brkts and possibbly a trans xmember, I'm assuming it was a 6 cylinder to start with. Does the 425 have the crank drilled for the pilot bearing already?
I just got done dropping a sbc/ T350 in a 61 that was originally a straight 6 with a 3 spd std, and had to fab motor mounts, trans xmember, radiator brkts, shifter linkage, and replace steering column. It wasn't that bad just took a while!

me an my dad pulled the straight six out of it about 12 years ago, and swapped it to a sbc currently a 400 with a 700 r4 tranny. i got the 425 that i pulled out of my 81 cutlass project before i sold it. and i had the crank drilled out for a pilot bearing and balanced the motor when i rebuilt it a few years back. so i got these laying around along with a oldsmobile bell housing. the truck even came factory with 4:11 posi rear end in it. so i thought it meight be a fun project as my kids are starting to get to the age where they are able to help a little bit and enjoy spending some time in the shop with dad.
