Unhappy 400/455 flexplate difference?

I am swapping my 400 in my 65 442 for a 455. I have a 200 4 r auto in it now, I pulled my old flexplate off the 400 and it doesn't alien with the 455. Apparently there is a difference, I did not know that. I see I can get one on Ebay for a 455 for about $50.00, it says it has 166 teeth on the starter ring. Will my starter that I had on the 400 work with the 455 flexplate? Will the torque converter also line up on the 455 flexplate? Lastly will I have any problems with the motor mounts as long as I use the same ones that were on the 400?

Thanks for the help on this

Hi Dave
Yes, the 330, 425 and early 400's used a different flexplate than the 350, 68-69 400's 455's plus the newer 403, 307 and 260. Since all these other engines have the flexplate you need I would hope you could purchase a used one for less than $50. I'd be happy with $20 plus shipping and you may be able to find one closer from either oldspackrat or jensenracing77.

The starter and motor mounts from your 400 will work just fine with your 455 and it's flexplate. All these flexplates have holes for both the TH350 and TH400 bolt pattern.

What's your plans for the 1965 400 engine? I might be interested and if shipping added to purchase price it too expensive for me I'm sure there's other members here who would be interested in it. That is if you decide to sell it

Thanks for all the info - as far as the engine I am not sure what I'll do with it. It ran OK when I pulled it, it was tired though and needs to be rebuilt. The odometer says it had 87K on it but I'm not sure. I'd like to find the numbers on it and see if it matches the car. If not I'd sell it but I have no idea what they are worth. I paid $300.00 for the 455 and had it rebuilt.

For completeness, all 1964-1967 Olds V8s use a different crank flange bolt pattern from the 1968-1990 motors.
