40 Series Flowmaster on '62 Starfire

Hey yall,

I am wanting to put Super 40 Series Flowmaster mufflers on my 1962 Starfire. Has anybody ran these mufflers on their Oldsmobile? Any problems to look out for? I am wanting a more agressive sound from my Olds.

Any comments are welcome.

Just took them off my 71 350, too loud for me. Went with Magnaflo more of a glass pack sound. I am considering a cross over and want to talk to the muffler man about that.

I would second this suggestion. The loudness gets old.

You could always run CHEAPO glasspacks. That would be loud!

Also had them on my 71 Supreme...they sounded great from outside the car but way too much interior noise....50 series would be a better choice unless you also like standing near the starting line at Top Fuel races.

I have 2 super 40's on my Delta. It's not too loud, but my set-up it pretty mild right now.

I have "X" pipe duals and still have the stock exhaust manifolds. If you're just changing the mufflers and not putting headers on, it should be too loud, it will give a low rumble.

Here's my set-up, ingorne the landscapers working in the background and the sqeaky belt (just got that fixed today )

Thanks for the comments...I already have glasspacks and I want something a little louder and deeper. I also have 50 series on my tahoe and I don't think that is loud enough for me. I wouldn't mind a little more sound inside, but I don't won't it to be deafening. Looks like I need a compromise between the Super 40's and the 50 Series.

Any more thoughts are greatly appreciated!

Here's what you need to think about. It's a Starfire. You don't want it sounding like a damn 5.0 Mustang, and with 40s it will. A 60s car doesn't have the sound deadening your Tahoe does, and my money says you're gonna get tired of that echoing real quick.

Plus with a 4GC carb 40s are going to really lean that 394 out, and it is not going to like it.

Put 50s or Dynomax on it. You'll be a lot happier in the long run.

OMG you wanna talk about loud, but sounds great.

I put dual Super 44's on my Alero. After time and time again of being told it couldn't be done, it's now done.

The car is LOUD. The dog knows when I'm almost home The Delta he knows as soon as I pull into the lot.

The Alero has 2.5 inch and headers, that's why it's so loud. It sounds better than a Rustang "Slow" T

Ok..so I did a little more research and my Tahoe (I'm sure) has the 50 Series for SUV's. The plain 50 Series shoud be perfect for what I'm looking for. Not to sound dumb but, rocketraider what would it mean to lean it out?

I bet that not many Alero's have Super 44's on them!!!

The Tahoe has Cats, while any car before 1975 doesn't. The Cats add a good deal of "mufflering" to an exhaust system.
What was meant by the leaning out of the 394 was that an exhaust system must have a certain degree of back pressure. If the system flows TOO well, the car will run lean. This may or may not happen with this Starfire as the system is quite long from manifold back to the rear exit. A shorter system like one that dumps right out of the muffler would likely run lean.
I plan on running good old fashioned Turbo mufflers on my 63 once I get the $ do get it done.
