4-Spoke Rally Steering Wheel in a '67

I've seen threads on this subject in the past, but, don't remember seeing a good solution
for accomplishing this.
As anyone who has considered doing this knows, the 4-spoke hub that fits the '70-'77 steering column
is a larger diameter than the '68 back steering column.
I've heard discussion bout machining the 4-spoke hub down to match the '67 steering column diameter.
The problem with this is you loose the lip where the hub meets the column
leaving a wide gap between the column and the bottom of the hub.

Is the solution to modify a 3-spoke hub for '68 rally wheel to accept the 4-spoke wheel
or is there a good way to make the 4-spoke hub work?

Don't do it, Ed! You'll lose your 67 owner card and your hair will fall out!

I actually have no idea. Sounds like a neat mod. I have a bunch of 67 steering wheel cores; need to send one off to one of those resto joints that redoes the plastic.

I used a 67 Camaro repro hub, they seemed cheap and are the right diameter. As you know it is for a 3 spoke and has a notch on the bottom side. The notch didn't bother me, it is not visible when in the driver seat, it can only be seen if the car was parked and the steering wheel would need to be turned just right and someone was closely examining your wheel, remember the column is slanted which helps hide it.
I used the small 4 spoke wheel, as you can see the turn signal lever is sticking out beyond the wheel, that took some getting used to.

Good luck

Hey, John.
Car is no longer original anyhow since I've converted the transmission to a 700-R4,
plus I intend to restore the cracked original wheel.
What color are your wheels?
I can use a red one and a dark blue one if you're interested in selling.

Thanks for the quick reply.
I have a bad habit of posting questions like this before I do proper research.
I discovered everything you've mentioned soon after my initial post.
I knew the '67-'68 3-spoke hubs were the smaller 3-7/8" diameter that I need.
I have two Buick 3-spoke wheels AND some original '70-'77 Olds 4-spoke wheels.
(One of them has a '69-'77 hub with the larger 4-1/8" diameter hub.)
Didn't find a 3-spoke hub with any of the Olds vendors, so I checked Chevy vendors.
Eckler's El Camino store has the '67-'68 3-spoke hub for $41.29.
Like you, I don't have a problem with the 3-spoke slot being visible under the 4-spoke wheel.
In fact, I'm considering using the black Buick 3-spoke wheel.
At least it's gonna be an easy installation after all.
