The heads on my 394 are interchangeable. Someone put it together that way after a rebuild. And yes the exhaust manifolds bolted in just fine. Didn't try switching the LH manifold to the right though. Don't know about clearance, etc.

I think they are will fit the head but using the left on the right would put the exhaust pointing in the wrong direction (forward) wouldn't it?...Tedd

that routing seems goofier than a crossover.

It can be done

I did that same thing with my 61 Olds Dynamic 88 "Bubble-Top". I wanted to get rid of that pass side manifold with the junction block. I located a drivers side exhaust manifold for a 394 equipped with factory dual exhaust. That takes care of the drivers side with a nice rear lower exit point. I then used my stock factory single exhaust system drivers side manifold on the pass side. Remember that manfold used to exit to a cross over pipe close to the center of the manifold, so its not pointing towards the front when you put it on the pass side. There will be a clearence issue with the oil filter mount that bolts to the pass side of the 394. I solved that by using a remote oil filter mount. The ports in the block for where the oil leaves to go to the filter and then comes back after its cleaned are the perfect size for a 3/8-NPT tap. By looking at the passages in the oil filter mount you can determine which hole is inlet or return ( its been 10 years since I sold my 61...I can't remember which hole was which). I used 3/8-NPT to -06 AN fittings so I could run some braided line to a remote oil filter. Then you can have have dual exhaust without that hideous junction block on the pass side. Once I had it all fitted up I sent the manifolds out for an Extrude Honing job, and then had them Jet Hot coated inside and out.
