3.8 Problems

He is probably referring to this TSB 01-06-01-007C which explains what the problem is when a intake leak occurs. Have seen cars come in for normal service and would not start afterward. You can see the TSB here http://www.justanswer.com/uploads/Bl...per_intake.pdf

Not sure if this applies, but know a guy with a SC 3800 Buick Regal, that low oil pressure ruined internally. Transfered all the accessories/SC to a base 3800 and wouldn't start. Turns out the ignition reluctor wheel beneath the harmonic balancer got pushed out of position, and actually had to pay a shop to figure it out. As for oil pressure, had an 87' Olds Toronado 3800, and one day started it up, making all kinds of noise with a dash low oil pressure warning. Had it towed to the dealer finding the pump pressure valve had stuck. Think this is a rare event though.

The 3800 was one of the best motors GM put out back then. Hmmm, you just saved yourself 600 bucks at the repair shop. My 95 Regency elite needed a new intake gasket too, and it created a coolant leak at the same time. If I knew how easy it was, I would have done it myself. Oh, most of my mechanical problems always seem to happen when its cold and a PITA to work on. You ever have that? Is your 3.8 the series 1, 11, or 111?
