So, the National Club is whining about putting on a National meet. Hmmmm, maybe I'm dumb, but it seems like that's their job. Chapter show put on by a local chapter? Makes sense to me.
Oldsmobile enthusiasts are dwindling fast. One is lost with every LS swap, as far as I'm concerned. At that point, the marque has lost its heart and become just another GM trim level.

Keep in mind if sucessfull, chapters if they do all the work can make some money for their chapter if successful.
The National board only has so many people to make this happen, look at your OCA inside front cover.
Again, it takes a ton of planning and a ton of people to make it happen. Note the OCA Head Judges recap of Nationals. You need lots of judges to help out, as well as help with all the other logistics, well before hand..
As being part of a chapter that put on two successful National OCA meets making a fair amount of money for our chapter, as well as a great event both times, I know what it takes.
Years ago, at the National OCA meet chapters would step up, like I said earlier 3 years in advance.
Now the National OCA has to recruit outside paid event planners to help figure out a National Meet location. One of the big challenges is finding a venue large enough to host the number of cars and people at a National meet.
If you haven't been involved in puttting on a National OCA meet , you don't have a clue of what is involved to make a great National OCA meet.
What have YOU done to help with a OCA Nationals??? Are you even a dues paying member???? Are you active in a local OCA chapter, or are you another do nothing person......???? Too many of you...
Regards,
Fred

I'm not "dissing" any club. I just think it's kind of ironic that the club is complaining about not getting support. I agree; if you want the club to survive, the members need to pitch in more than just paying dues and reading the monthly. Or, raise the dues enough to cover paid help. Have fun.

I have a restomod 71 convertible w/LSX swap. I've owned it for 33 years and had all EFI swaps (350 TPI, Lt1 and now 6.0 LS). And I live in the Dayton area. How are olds fans w/engine swaps? If everybody is pretty down on that I might just come and enjoy the show. But if people are cool seeing a driver LS swapped vehicle, I might bring it. Thoughts? Any more details on the event? I can't seem to find much on the web.

This is a Cutlass Convertible that I cloned. But in every performance and comfort perspective it is far better than an original W30. I got 4000 miles in it last year driving to work on every sunny day, and I drove it yesterday for the first time (salt off the roads from many days of rain and it was 70 deg).

Goldhawg, Everyone has opinions! But you would be in a modified class and the cars in that class vary all over the board. We the OCA board welcome all Oldsmobiles, this is why just a couple of years ago we opened a new class as a driver class for those who do not want to participate in. Please be aware that to show a car at the National Meet you must be a OCA member. If you are not you can go to the Oldsmobile club of America web site to join. Good Luck, I hope to see you there.

Oh Hell Ya bring that car! I like it and will love to look at it. I really can understand going with newer LS engines. My 71 is all stock, but if I were to restore a car that needed expensive engine work, etc, I would really consider a LS swap. Hope to see you there!

Has it been confirmed its at the fairgrounds? I'm getting kind of lost with the whole "host hotel" thing as I'm reading it (possibly wrong) as if it's at a hotel with a convention center nearby (think Columbus AutoShow if anyone has been to that)

No. Each registered car is assigned a space based on the class that it is entered in. The showfield is set up according to judging classes. Otherwise, the judges wouldn't have time to find all the cars in each class.

The Oldsmobile Club of America (OCA) holds a national meet every year at various hotels. There is always a HOST hotel or a main hotel which is the ephah center of the event. This meet is for OCA members and their vehicle (s)and it is open spectators to see the car like a regular car show..
brotherGood I am happy to talk with you if you would like more detailed information just send me your PH#

Ok sounds good, I haven't received my JWO yet. For some reason I thought the March edition would be out before March. But that is ok... I plan to get a room as soon as I am allowed. Hope to see a lot of you guys there!

As mentioned before, the only "brand specific" show's I'd been to, I'd been a spectator so registration and such didn't concern me. The only shows I've been a part of were local shows where there literally was no rhyme or reason. You just parked and went about your day.

Wife and I liked the banquets at Gettysburg and Murphreesboro, I think it's a good time and nice to actually sit and talk. Well, I will call tomorrow, looking forward to the meet- pretty close to me this time.
