In the UK all rear wheel drive vehicles use a propeller shaft to transmit power from the gearbox to the back axle.

Language and terminology is constantly evolving.
A good thing has been bully, choice, cool, bad, mean, sick, and other terms as well, certainly new definitions will have their turn.
We can't stop it, we need to evolve with it.

Maybe we're just having tea.
Technically, dinner is the large meal around midday, and supper is the smaller nighttime meal.

In the US, we tend to eat the larger meal at night, so the use of the word seems to have migrated, but on the farm in the old days, and in places like Italy today, the pattern is followed.

Here in Maine and New Hampshire, the old timers still use dinner to mean a big luchtime-ish meal and supper to mean the nighttime meal.

Does this mean I'm banned or can I just change my name to BLUE72DROPTOP?

You will have to specify the exact shade of blue, using GM paint codes, specify the precise year and use correct terminology.
Welcome Paintcode11d4fNineteenSeventyTwoConvertible.

Or just change your username to your cars VIN.

Fun thread, but it does amaze me how tight certain people can get their panties in a wad over terminology, Isn't that what makes reading or speech entertaining? Surely if this forum was like reading a parts manual usage would wain. Different is better, colonialism are unique and make speech or reading interesting.... Just my uneducated thoughts....Tedd

This must be the most useless thread of all times.

Actually I agree with Copper, I will speak how I wanna speak, don't like it, look at coppers 2015 resolution. Some of you guys are either too old or got too much time on your hands, or both. Maybe you need another project to build.

Around here (SF Bay area) where I grew up it was always a Cutty or ragtop.

PS It really pisses me off when people refer to Cutlass as Cutty.

I spend a great deal of my time biting my tongue over liberal grammar and incorrect use of the English language. Just my opinion, but I believe sloppiness in one thing leads to sloppiness in all things. I truly cringe when I see what's been added to the dictionary from one year to the next. At what point do people realize that failure to hold themselves to a standard is habit forming and contagious. You've only to look at ebonics and common core to see this. When the teachers of tomorrow aren't held to yesterday's standard or higher ... they certainly won't teach it to the next generation.

For what it's worth ... I leave my office when other people eat at their desks. I frequently have to eat in my car to get away from the disgusting table habits that infest those around me.

It's not the keyboard that does the typing though - it's the users fingers. Texting shortcuts will exist as long as people decide to use them.

In general, I don't care for most colloquialisms although
I sometimes use "gonna", "wanna"and "'til" when posting in threads.

I don't like to use "dizzy", I don't like "tranny" (sometimes I use "x'mission").
Don't like to use "cutty" or "ragtop".

I don't like to abbreviate except when space is a problem.
I usually write out the names of the states when I address mail.
I don't like acronyms. I prefer to spell things out.

I DO use a fair amount of profanity in normal conversation, more so when I'm pissed or excited.
In recent years, politics, especially OBAMA conversations, increase my use of profanity.

But, all this is just how I prefer to communicate.

I can dig how other people do it as long as I can understand them.
(I really HATE "dig". I like "cool" though. )
I'm really glad "It's the bomb!" is now out of style. I really hated that one, too.

I agree this thread is a big waste of time, BUT, here I am!!

Hrrrm. Point.

Perhaps "the excuse for texting shortcuts is over" would have been more apt.

Edit: "Watch out for that f*^&ing roll cage" may have been the first words I ever heard from Ed.

I can see you have a dilemma and I'm sorry life must suck most of the time for you because the real world isn't a classroom. People live and talk in a much less structured manor than you, yet their thoughts and communications are valid. True perfection in any field is a life's trip through frustration and disappointment. This I have witnessed personally in my own family and I would not wish that on anyone . Life will go on. Enjoy it as much as you can the alternative really sucks......Tedd

I do however dislike it when someone describes something as a "thingy". There are no "thingys" on my car. I dont think GM literature shows any "thingys" in their books. I have seen it used numerous times on this site, and so be it. But it sounds very? feminine? to me. ?girly, gay? and no i dont have anything against gay people. Just using that word to describe an automobile part, is just wrong. IMO
However...c'est la vie

Yup, the correct term is doohickey. It's even right here in my spell checker for some reason.

Thingamajig or whatchamacallit back in my region. I don't really have any issues with whatever nick-name people choose to use for certain parts as long as I can tell what they meant. I had no idea that tranny's were men who were in the wrong gear until this thread. I'm even getting used to most of the abbreviations commonly used these days. It does bother me a little when words like advise and advice or lose and loose are used incorrectly. Sorry if we hi-jacked the thread, but it is more fun to read now.

I was subtle about it at least. I hid the little one liner in the middle of the text about my observations. I do have an extra keyboard, but it costs more to ship it than to buy another locally.

X2, lol. This is a topic of discussion at work. They all think I am wrong. They always ask where lunch comes into play. I tell them it is something you have day or night when you are at School or work or out in the fields.

No, it's COLONIALISM, both in Canada and the USA, as is any variation from the Queen's English in Australia, New Zealand, South Africa or any former part of the Empire.........

I'm sure I wasn't the focus of his 2015 resolution. I just hope I can keep from breaking mine, which is to get my "convertible" back on the road this spring.
