I just got a truck from my daughter and was wondering why the left turn signal would flash faster than the right signal. Is there something else that could be hooked up in line on the same circut? Thanks.

I do not know much about imports or new cars, but if it uses a standard flasher unit, it is possible that the wrong type of bulb was installed on the left side, or installed improperly to cause a short (if a 2 filament bulb).

The standard flashers rely on current to open and close, so it sounds like the left side may be drawing too much current.

Are you only looking from the dashboard? I know on the 2004 Blazer I had, if you had a burnt out bulb, the side that had the burt out bulb flashed faster. On a two filament bulb, the tail light would work but brake and turn signal wouldn't. Put on hazards or turn signal and walk around the truck to look at all the bulbs (you may have two bulbs on each side of brake lights).

Both answers are correct. Is this an Hombre, which is an S-10? The turn signal will definitely flash faster if a bulb is burned out. As also noted, if the resistance in one side is different from the other side that will also change the flash rate. Resistance differences can be due to corrosion, shorts, or incorrect bulb. Be aware that there are different versions of the XX57 turn signal bulbs with different wattages (and thus different resistance). In addition to the 1157, there is a 2157 that is lower resistance.

Thanks guys! The problem was a burned out front turn signal bulb. I wasn't too sure about that at first, but it turns out it was the front bulb. Thanks again!


I bought the bulbs. Turns out the manual didn't say anything about a letter designation after the number. Now I have two bulbs that look the same but won't work!

I had to go online to a parts store to look up the part number. There are several types of bulbs with the same number with a letter designation after it. They look pretty much the same so you have to be real careful when buying. Thanks for you comments.
