2 more yards gone
Haven't been on the Forum for a while. I was talking to a Yard Owner in Montana last week. He told me Neil Freman crushed out in May. I had dealings with Neil in the past and was kinda shocked to hear the news. I Googled Freman's Antique Auto and sure enough, there was the article.....30 acres with 3,500 cars all gone. I hope I'm not repeating something that was reported earlier. Like I said, haven't been here for a while.
Also, I heard from a friend in Maine, who also owns an old car yard, that Lyle Cookson's "real old" car yard (near Dover Foxcroft, Me.) has been cleaned up too. Lyle's a nice old fellow, well into his 80's but dementia has taken him over. We heard his Daughter sold some of the items in the yard and then called in the crusher. We last visited his yard in Aug. 2012. Lyle was still in pretty good shape but went downhill quickly over the following winter. He had well over 300 cars in the yard (actually forest) and many of the cars would have been stuck to the ground, but talk about trim pieces, chrome, die castings, interiors that had been removed and stored in buildings, neat cars, Huppmobiles, ****** Overlands, Studebakers, Nashs, His was a hot rodders dream yard. Oldest car there was a '28 Pontiac Roadster. He told us $ 1,500.00 would buy a coupe, take your pick. One of our club members bought an almost pristine '36 Olds Grille with the enameled badge still intact and just about unobtainable anywhere.....Lyle had 2 of them. Several early '50s Pontiacs with the illuminated Indian Head hood ornament. It's enough to make a car guy cry.
