2 bolt valve cover seals?
2 bolt valve cover seals?
I just put my heads on after a valve job and found the holes in the seals for the bolts that hold on the valve cover were larger than the old seals. the old seals were snug to the bolt the new ones slide off the bolts. I was thinking of putting some gasket sealer ton them to hold them in place any ideas?

Yeah. It's likely that the old seals have been compressed after being under compression for all these decades, which caused the hole to tighten up. I've had this same problem on a Honda motor, where the old seal that goes on the valve cover stud is much tighter than the new one. Once you install everything and tighten the bolts, it will be fine.
Im a bit confused. The seals are inside the valve cover to keep oil from blowing out the 2 holes. If the seals slide down the bolt to the threads how will the hole be sealed in the valve cover?
No, sorry, I'm the one who's confused. I was under the impression that you were talking about seals that went on from the top and were compressed by the nuts. Is there supposed to be some sort of flanged washer on the underside that the seal compresses against? I've seen that arrangement on other engines.
The seals go on the bolt and actually go between the head of the bolt and the outside of the valve cover. At least that is the way my 54 is. I can't imagine anyway you could seal them from the inside.
