1990 Oldsmobile 98 Regency Brougham trouble
I have a 1990 Oldsmobile 98 Regency Brougham that, just recently, has started to shake a good bit while idling, squeals (chirps, squeaks, etc.) when accelerating, and accelerates EXTREMELY slow. I can press completely down on the gas, and it'll still take about 20 seconds to go from a full stop to 55 mp/h. Also, if I give it a little gas while parked, it begins to smell like a mixture of gas and rubber. If you had to guess, or even better if you know, what would you say the problem is?
Besides basic oil and filter maintenance, the only thing that's been done to it since it was driven off the lot, that I see in the maintenance history anyways, is that it had the power steering replaced/repaired. I bought it about a month ago, got the brakes changed, got new spark plugs and the throttle body slightly cleaned. There is 144,706 miles on it.
Sounds like a plugged cat or exhaust to me. Especially with the burnt rubber smell as well.
Both my H Bodies have more miles than yours is showing, and both still run great.
If you go to "pontiacbonnevilleclub.com" that is a forum particularly for '86 and up H and C body cars. Not as busy as this site, but there are some good people there with a wealth of knowledge and experience who would be happy to help in the unlikely event that we can't pin down your problem(s).
Roger.
