1982 Olds 98

I noticed in nearly all my lights on my 1982 Olds 98 Regency Brougham there is like an optic fibre wire going to a very small clear lens in nearly every light. Is this for the alarm or what? Does anyone know what it is related too. Cheers Mike

Exterior or interior ?.

There was a fiber optic lamp monitor option for the front & rear exterior lamps.
(these would be on top of the front fenders & above the rear window)

There was also an illuminated entry option available that used fiber optic tubes to illuminate the front door locks.
(carried light from the courtesy lamps on the lower part of the interior door panels I believe).

Another option on some years, was a lighted thermometer on the drivers exterior mirror.
(I believe that was fed from an illumination source somewhere in the instrument panel)

I don't believe there were any other fiber optic feeds for anything else in the 88/98 instrument panel itself ... I believe everything else was illuminated at night directly via bulbs.

In the rear taillights the wire comes from the wiring harness and then into a plug on rear of tail light it has like a brass fitting on the end of it, not a globe, it is the same to the rear & front side lights

Those are the fiber optic lamp monitor option.

The rears run to the center of the trim just above the inside rear window.

The fronts run from the high beams - the low beams & the parking/turn lamps to the small units mounted on the tops of the front fenders.

None of these are visible at night ?.
