Oh yeah!

The rear bumper seems to be in decent condition. Check it for rot. The rear bumpers in 77-79 were 3 pieces and they rusted easily. Other than that just make sure it runs.

Yeah it supposedly needs a starter... I have one lined up to pick up on the way.

Why buy a starter for a car that might be a dud? If you get there and the car is a lemon you would have to go through the hassle of returning the starter. Is the current owner willing to install it for you? Even if you install the starter, what happens if it won't start?

If you really want the car I suggest going without the starter and making sure the engine turns over with a breaker bar. If it does you can offer him $400 which is more than he would get for a non-running car from a junkyard. Don't let the owner say he could part it out either. If he lives in the country maybe he could, but the number of interested parties nation wide you could count on 2 hands (if not 1) and we're all active on this site.

Not buying the starter. I have a friend who is building a performance 455, and he is going with a mini starter... He said come by and get the starter and see if it works for you. It is all in route to the vehicle.

That's good that you have a friend with a mini starter you can borrow. If you have to do tinkering to get it started that is a good reason to offer less than $900 though. Good luck.

My bad. I didn’t give enough explanation. I am getting his stock starter because he doesn’t need it anymore. Hopefully I can spend just a few minutes to get the car fired. Thanks for the replies.

Make sure you bring a spare battery, starting fluid, a small gas can, jumper cables, etc. Who knows if the current owner is right in @$$uming the starter is bad?
