1975 Olds 98 stereo installation

my 98 has an aftermarket stereo but from the 80s. I want to replace it. I found a stereo for my car. But the question is can I just take face place off or do I have go from underneath in order to remove and replace it. One last thing is my 98 has the Air Cushion package so some things in the car are switched around compared to a regular 98.

Hey Canelo,

Wow an ACRS 98, very nice! The radio comes out from behind the dash, not the front. Is the aftermarket radio a similar style to the original with the left and right ***** or did they cut the dash to install it? If the dash is cut, you will need to replace the entire dash cluster from the far left where the headlight and HVAC controls are all the way up, but not including to the glove box.

Please post some pics of your 98. I'd love to see another one with the ACRS!

It doesn't look how the original looks but I still use the original ***** to adjust volume and change stations. The dash isn't cut. The only thing that sucks is, you know the R/F and T/B adjusters behind the *****? Well they still work but theyre flip flopped. So when I adjust the treble The car is adjusting the bass and vice versa. And when I'm adjusting the front speakers the car is adjusting the back speakers and vice versa. You have an idea of what it would be ?

That's good that the dash isn't cut because it can be a bit of a project to replace that whole section. I would say there's nothing really wrong as far as the treble, bass and fader but it's more likely that the radio is just set up differently than an original unit. If you put an original radio back in, those ***** would work correctly. Are you going to put it back to an original radio?
