does anybody know where to get the short 5.072 water pump for my 442 non air. If so what is the parts store and part number?

I have this original with the cast impeller. I wouldn't trust it without a rebuild though, the bearing seems a little noisy to me. $25 + the ride if interested.

Yes I had to buy one a couple of years back. I still have the box in my basement, but I'm not home at the moment.

Send me a pm to remind me, and I'll look tonight or first thing tomorrow. I went through hell in 2009 trying to find the right size one, and finally did. The aftermarket was all messed up and I didn't want to pay super high prices through a restoration company.

Search Amazon for ACDelco 252-202. A local store may be able to get this for you.

tru-blue 442 I am not sure your pump will work. I think it uses a different size hose than the 72s.

The correct water pump casting number for your 1972 is 408328. The outlet size in 69-70 is larger than 1971 and later; they reduce the size from 1971 and onward for all models.

While this may be true in the books, none of those pumps fit my car either.

Parts Master make the short neck pump ( the one just under 5 1/8") part number 3-343. I've had on my car for almost 5 years now, no problems. It was expensive when I bought, but the prices have come down almost 50%.

Also, I've been told by another member Cardone part # 5511135 is the same, but I haven't tested that myself.

There was a total of 3 different water pumps offer for the 1971-72 model year. The 408328 was used on all non AC cars. The 408329 was used on the W car's and the 407586 was used on all AC applications. There are only 2 reasons why they would not fit. One is if you do not have the correct pulleys for said application. The other is if the rebuilder did not press the hub onto the pump the correct length.

Why did the 408328 pump not work? As RocketDevo said, it is the correct pump for your car. If you are using different pulleys or a different radiator than this may be your problem.

It was too long. I needed a 5.0xx length pump, not the 5 1/2" pump. I don't know if the pulleys have been changed, but the pump I took off the car was an original stamped number. I don't remember the number, I can look and post it, but I crossed that number and got the parts master number.

The 408328 pump is 5".
The replacement pumps I have suggested are 5".

The 408329 is a 5.5" pump for the 71/72. The information posted in this thread should get you the pump you need. Hope this helps.

A fellow customer answered your question, "howt all is it from the bottom to the pulley?" about GMB 130-2773 OE Replacement Water Pump. Steve8596 answered:

"Hi, It is 5.1" from the gasket mounting surface to the threaded hub that the pulley is attached to. This pump is the shortest of three lengths and fits engines with no A/C."

Thank the customer
