1972 Factory Air Convertible, U Code, W29 vs '70/71
I found a '72 factory air convertible, U code, W29. I know that these are difficult to find. This car has the buildsheet identifying the W29 option. Nice colors, buckets, dual gate and floor console. How are the '72's priced compared to the '70 and '71's? I would think that since there are so few documented U code W29 convertibles they are valuable?? Assume the '72 is in excellent condition and heavily optioned.
I'm interested in the cars value.

A U code 72 442 is exactly the same performance wise as a 71 442. Both bodies can be shown to have come with a 455, and both can be numbers matching. You have docs showing it is a 442. They are priced lower because people are not understanding this. You can probably BUY it for less, but you'd have to SELL it for less if you flipped it. If you want it for you, go buy that thing, now. I think 72s will increase in value.

Unfortunately the 1972's are undervalued in today's market. The U and V code cars are scarce and so are the X codes, but unfortunately only the Olds market really understands the uniqueness of value you'd get with that 72 442. Very limited U code production in 1972. If the car is documented as a 1972 with U in the VIN and in really nice shape, you can still acquire it for less than the price of a 70/71 IMO. Good luck, it sounds like you've found a nice car. Post some pictures of it when you get it?

I was looking online for values of U Code '72 442 convertibles a few weeks ago before buying one. I found ads for cars in the $35-45k range; some referenced broadcast cards with W29, some did not.

I've had my Viking Blue U Code W29 W25 car with Fremont build sheet for 20 years this month. I know I sure as heck would never be able to buy one like it for $10,500 again! Had a couple unsolicited, very educated estimates on my car's value a couple weeks ago (from guys who are always in the X Code and W car market nationally) and was quite surprised at what they had to say.
