1972 Cutlass headlights

Hello all! I have a 1972 Cutlass Supreme that I would like to upgrade my headlights to the halo style with ability to have daytime running lights and turn signals incorporated. Does anyone have a brand they recommend that won’t break the bank and that doesn’t require cutting the car up to make fit? I’ve found the dapper 575’s but they’re more than I want to spend. Any suggestions would be appreciated!! Hopefully someone else has done this and can recommend from their experience. Thanks for your help!

I did a set of Jeep halo lights in the valance of a T/A. They had a white/yellow ring, but both had to be energized for yellow. I put a 5 pin relay on each side to make it switch. Best pic I got.

I can't stand halo headlights, so I have no recommendations.

So on a '72 Cutlass with 4 headlights, would all 4 have halo lights? Wouldn't that look weird?

Guess I’m glad I asked on here as apparently all I wanted was opinions. Honestly folks, I don’t judge others for their car choices as at least they’re car people but maybe here that’s not the case. If all anyone has are opinions please just hold on to those. If you can actually help me with my question, please chime in. Thanks again for any help you might have.

I am running these and really like them. They do require cutting of the headlight bucket, but no modification to the headlight wiring, just added wiring for the halos and turn signals.

What portion of the bucket did you need to cut? I’ve seen some where you have to cut the back hole out bigger and I’ve seen others that you cut off the top of the can and actually change the overall height of the can. Thanks for your help. Those look really nice with the white paint.

The lights in the photo above require cutting almost all of the original bucket out. There is probably only about 1/4" - 1/2" left. I did not need to make any modifications to the mounting location or the plate that the buckets mount to though. When I got the car it had a cheap set of halogen headlights in it so the buckets had been cut to a 2" - 3" hole already. After I removed those (they gave very little light at night), I was running a set of lights like the ones in the link below for a while but the amber halo was not very broght as they only use 4 LEDs to light up the ring around the light (in the photos the halos are on).

Then I got a set like the ones in this link. I never actually had the car on the road with these. They were very bright (halo and headlight) and fit in the same hole as the amber halo lights above, but because they use RGB LEDs to make any color, they do not give a true white. I was not really happy with them either and changed them out before I put the car back on the road.

Finally I went with the ones seen in post 6. I wired the original turn signals to be on with the parking lights to make them more visible and wired the turn signals into the yellow halos only. The whiite halos are on with the ignition on, turn off if the headlights are on (high beam or low beam), and can be turned on seperatly when the car is off. Here is a shot when I put the car together to test all of the mechanical systems before I took it back apart to paint it.

Thanks very much for your information! The car looks awesome with those! Very much appreciate all the info. I guess I may have no choice but cut the buckets or spend big money on expensive ones.

Cutting the buckets really is not a big deal. If you ever want to go back, the same headlight buckets were used on all 5-3/4" (4 headlight) cars from at least 1968- up (possibly 67-up I can't remember). Earlier cars used a slightly different bucket even with the 4 headlight design.
