1970 w30

I work with a fellow who is the second owner of a 70 Cutlass, W30, 2dr post, bench seat 4sp. He has owned it for over 40 years and this year has finished it's restoration. It has the original drive train components, functional hood scoop. I've helped him with a few details after he got it out of the shop and was lucky enough to drive it, what a joy. How rare do you suppose this is? I'll try to get some pics posted.

Whats happening here. I think I screwed up the picture but thanks for the welcome. I was on here many years ago discussing my 73 Supreme 455 4 speed car, I might be sorta new but actually kinda old LOL.

Your friend's car is a Cutlass W-31. I believe they made 116 Cutlass W-31 post models in 1970, out of a total W-31 production run of 1352. Welcome (back) to the site.

All that and you still got it wrong.

Ctls442 got it right - it's a Cutlass S Sports Coupe with the W-31 package, which is the rarest of the bunch for 1970.

That's a beautiful car. And a great color combination. How 'bout some pics of the interior and engine compartment. I would think that a 40 year ownership history should provide at least a few good stories. If he first got it around 1975 I'll bet he got it real cheap cuz the original owner probably dumped that old "gas hog".

You'd think I could have got that right.

He got it around 72, trade in at a dealer in Toronto and ya there's a lot of stories. We live in a rural area where you know the law and they might try and chase you home. It's a wonder it survived unlike my own.

The original owner raced it, the rear control arms are boxed, the only interior redone is the front seat the rest looks like its a couple years old.

No I didn't. When I answered the original question there were no pictures posted and the OP asked for production numbers for 1970 W-30 post cars which I did provide in an attempt to help. How did I know that he did not know the difference between a W-30 and a W-31?

But thanks Diego for taking the time to mock me.

It is a very nice car. You don't see many cars owned that long and in that kind of shape.

Beautiful car! My 70 W-31 Cutlass post is also originally a black car but looks to have had red stripes. What's up with the full hubcaps? Are those original to the car? Have never seen a W-31 with full caps. The wheels under those caps should be 14x7 XT wheels to be original.

So how would I know photos were not initially posted?

I'm hardly mocking you.

This thread just took another turn into stupid.

From Orange442:
What's up with the full hubcaps?
Those are wheelcovers.

First Diego, you need to learn how to multi-quote! Now if you want to be sarcastic you should at least get your terminology right and use "Deluxe Wheel Discs" which is the correct nomenclature that Oldsmobile used to describe their "full hubcaps" in the 1970 "Oldsmobile Accessories " catalog foldout that was part of the glove box paperwork.

There's no sarcasm in my post - hubcaps cover the hubs, while wheelcovers cover the wheels. This is a distinction I learned about 5 years ago, and it's neat to show others there actually is a difference.

You look at the time stamps on the edits. I thought you were being a sarcastic PIA to Dave too. It's pretty obvious from the original post that there was a discrepancy in the Cutlass vs W30. Dave made a logical assumption that the OP was talking about a W30 not a W31
