1970 Rallye 350 Questions

Trying to help a friend determine authenticity of a 4 speed Rallye 350. Few questions:

1. Should the data plate shows W45? It shows paint code 51 51 which is Sebring Yellow, but the W45 is not on the data plate or the Broadcast card. Have not found the build sheet yet.
2. My understanding is that it is 4spd non-AC from the factory. What would be the correct rear axle for this combination?
3. Do 4-speed Rallye 350 cars have the same carburetor as automatic?
4. Are Rallye 350 cars supposed to have the drip rail moldings. This one does not have the molding.
5. Are there any production numbers showing how many 4 speed Rallye 350 were produced? This one has buckets/console and is a Cutlass "S" Hardtop not a Post.

All 1970 350 motors (except W-31s) got the '250 carb - they are just the L74 motor.

Standard axle with L74 and a close ratio 4spd was 3.42. With wide ratio it was 3.08.

The B-80 drip rail moldings were not offered on the F-85 based Rallye cars (33277 VIN). They were optional on the Cutlass S based cars (33677 or 33687 VIN).

1. The Data Plate will not show W45, and I am fairly certain that the Data Plate will only show - - (two dashes) for the paint code. I may be wrong but I have yet to see a Rallye Data Plate with 51 51. All Rallye’s were built in Lansing so the body tag number will show LAN as the build plant. I doubt you will find a build sheet and I would thing the Broadcast card would show W45, but I may be wrong on that too.

2. The only thing I would change from what Joe said is; For the Rallye 350 if the car has a M20 4-speed Wide Ratio transmission the standard rear axle package was the 3.23. If it has the M21 4 speed Close Ratio Transmission then it must have either the 3.91 rear axle package or the 3.42 rear axle package.

3.
As Joe said I am fairly certain that all L74 engines got the
7040250 carburetor.

4. Also, as Joe stated: If the body was a Cutlass S Sports Coupe (3677) or Cutlass S Holiday Coupe (3687) then the B80 Chrome Roof Drip Molding was an Option, so it may or may not be installed on his car.

5. Contrary to what you will read on the internet there are no known production numbers for the 4 speed Rallye. There was a total of 3,547 Rallye's built, how many had 4-speeds is anyone’s guess. There are a lot of people that will guess at a range of 12 to 16 and while I would love that to be true, as I have a 4 speed Rallye, there is absolutely no proof of these numbers.

And a lot of people are wrong as you say. There are many more Rallye 350 than that that were 4 speed. Counting the ones I have parted and the ones I owned I have had 4 of them myself.

There were two L74 350s the early cars may have had the QV 350 weather it was a auto or manual . They also had the QB 350 it has a larger cam and a ritcher jetted carb ending in 253. This info is from the 1970 engine assembly manual .

Is this the same car you previously posted about or have you found another one? The other thread does not show paint code 51 51 but - -
