1970 intake gasket

1970 intake gasket

Anybody ever have trouble with the rubber front and rear rubber intake gaskets squirting out of place when alum. Intake is tightened down ??? Thanks. Greg

If RTV is used with it, I have seen it. Most use RTV in tall beads in place of those seals.

Your supposed to throw the rubber end seals away with an aluminum aftermarket intake. Use a bead of RTV in its place. Read installation procedure on page 2.

Its a common problem even with the stock manifolds. Most just toss them and use a bead of RTV across the front and back.

I'm curious as to why people always think there is something magic about aftermarket aluminum intakes vs. factory ones.

I agree that the rubber end seals are worthless, and I've found that Permatex Ultra Black is the best RTV for intake sealing (I really like the aerosol package). The fact that E-brock suggests using only their intake gaskets has more to do with profits than reality, however.

Subscribing, I'll be swapping out a Performer for a W455 soon and have contiplated which direction to go on the end seals. I've also questioned to go metal or paper. I've done this both ways in the past, but would like to avoid problems and do the job once.
