Somebody sure knew how to order a car, with the W31 package, roof drip moldings, (B80), and the rare belt reveal moldings, (B85). Extra brightwork to enhance the black paint, very, very nice.
Enjoy.

The 12 bolt rear, Boxed control Arms and sway bar seem to never have been out of the car. We did not find an assembly date or code on the axle tube, however it does have the correct appropriate 3.91 GM gears.

The body is solid as a rock.

For 1970, you'll probably find the rear end's assembly date stamped not on the axle tube but on the center section, most likely on the back surface of the left boss (ear).

If everything is virgin enough, you might find the application code for the lower control arms (NZ) stamped in reddish-orange ink on their right-side surface, between the mounting holes for the sway bar. That means it would be hidden/protected by the sway bar on the left arm, and on the outboard side of the right arm. Of course, it might have been covered by blackout paint on the line after assembly.

How come all the cars in your signature are highlighted except for the last 2? Are they not as good or important as the other cars?

The face of the machined "spreader boss" left of cover.

This machined flat boss with a blind hole contains the assembly date, just wipe lacquer thinner to reveal.

Any idea how CL wheels are different from XTs? Both 14x7 for disc brakes?

Do you know if these steel wheels are original to the car?
My F85 W31 originally came with steel wheels with the P06 beauty ring. I am trying to track down the correct coded steel wheels. I was told that I needed the XT?

Beautiful car!

The CLs do clear disk brakes without issue. I do not know if they are original to the car. Will check date codes but they are difficult to read.

The Original Spare is coded as an XT and has an original Tiger Paw and Original black paint on both sides of the rim.

I just googled the issue and found out on a Chevy forum, that both are 14x7, but the offsets are slightly different. The XT is .40, and the CL is .34. Both are desirable wheels. What is correct for the W31 is out of my realm, but I have only heard of XT's on the 442s of that vintage. My 71 442, which came with wheel covers and not poverty caps came with XTs.

Regarding Chevys. XTs were used in 1969 and CLs for 1970 based on what I have experienced.

Fyi

When I bought my 1972 W-30 car in Jan 1992 the original spare tire & rim were in the trunk. It was an XT rim. My car left the factory on steel wheels with dog dish caps.

We found the Original Owner Today! What a neat guy.

He bought this W-31 new when he was 19 years old. The only modifications he made to the car were a set of new tires and chrome S/S Cragars.

Stefano is the man! The original owner is going to write aletter verifying all the info on the car and he has some of the originalpaperwork and he believes he may even have the build sheet/data card. It’samazing that he still has some paperwork after all these years. Stay tuned, andthank you very much Stefano for all your investigation work!

You are corrrect on both counts, it's Black Jade.

Back to the Black on Black Code 19 19 W-31.

The original owner remembers the car being $4,300.00.

He had a good job as he described it working at the Steel Mill.

Had the car while he was dating the Gal who became his wife.

Has some neat street racing stories too.

We have invited them to be reunited with the car at MCACN 2014!

The Original owner still thinks he has the original window sticker, somewhere.

Here is the original dealer invoice for this W-31.
